“A pulsating sky”: find writing inspiration everywhere

Where can you find inspiration for your writing? Anywhere! Everywhere! From the snow outside your door to the whirring data banks at CERN, the quantum physics research facility—which was the prompt we offered in our Prompt of the Week online gathering when Susie Shipman wrote this atmospheric piece.

Random writing prompts provide great writing inspiration—but let them be random! Don’t look for something that connects rationally with what you’re working on. Any writing prompt that engages your curiosity will start your imagination storming. You can find an archive of great writing prompts on the Imaginative Storm Circle and on our YouTube channel, as well as daily prompts on Instagram @imaginativestorm).

It started in my cabin.
I’ve been snowed in on this mountain side for a week.
Watching white fluffy flakes fall in random order.
A pulsating sky with intermittent constancy, accumulating inches from the sparking void.
Walking outside, I couldn’t sleep.
I see in the dark, starlight illuminated white blanket sheets of ice and snow.
Skating the matrix in flashes of inspiration.
My quivering brain can hardly contain this white wavelength, glowing blue.
Holding the light, here, ever is sacred.
On the edge of a new year, the future is shaking. Death of humanity, big brother is watching.
Where are you now?
Warm inside, frozen eyes stuck close to your screen?
Go outside, let yourself encounter the cold uncomfortable moment.
Follow tracks in the snow, like an animal, searching for food, returning back to your humanity.
